The vacancies on our site are all “live” and are updated on a daily basis. They remain on the website until a candidate has been selected and has confirmed their acceptance of our offer or until the closing date if applicable.

Only those locations with current vacancies are displayed on the site.

You can, but to maximise your chance of success we usually recommend that you allow 6 months before re-applying for the same role. This will usually allow you time to focus on any development areas.

Simply apply via this website.

Everyone who applies to us receives an acknowledgement email. It is also our policy to reply to every candidate within two weeks to let them know exactly where they stand even if they haven’t been successful.

If you're forgotten your password simply click on the 'Forgot your password?' link at the bottom of the log in page and enter either the email address you registered with or your username. A password recovery email will then be sent to that address.

Job alerts are emails that are sent to your email address when a role comes up that matches your search criteria. In order to set these up, you just need to create a log in and then set up alerts by telling us what type of position you're looking for and where. Our system will then look out for suitable matches and when one becomes available we'll send you an email to let you know.

You can do this on the Search & Apply page. You don't need to log in to search vacancies but if you don't, you won't be able to apply or save any of the roles that you find. So it’s better to create a log in if you're thinking of applying. You are then presented with a number of search criteria, so you can search by location, by business unit, by position type, the type of role (Full-time or Part-time). You don't have to select all of these and can search by each criteria or any combination of them to find the role that suits you best.

Matalan is committed to Talent Excellence and has a variety of policies, programmes and tools designed to support team members with developing their capability to be the best they can be in their current role and to help prepare them to take on bigger and better roles if that is what they want to do.

Yes, you can upload supporting documents during the online application process. We’d recommend you also bring these with you if you are invited to meet with us.

After you have completed an application you will receive an email to confirm that we have received it. The business area that you have applied to is able to see your details and the role that you have applied for on our system. If your application is unsuccessful we’ll let you know as soon as possible. If you have applied for a vacancy and have not received a response within 2 weeks, please contact us directly to follow up your application.

First you need to access the website and log in using the same username and password details you used when you set up your profile. Once you have entered your username and password, you will see the link on the page to “Unfinished Job Applications” provided that the vacancy remains “live”. To continue with your application simply click on the “Continue” icon to the right of the job title.

Ensure you are clear on the date, time, location and name of the person you’ll be meeting. Allow plenty of time to travel to your assessment – especially if you’re using public transport! Plan your route and plan some contingency time so you are prepared for any unexpected delays.

You’ll receive an email ahead of your assessment that will include some guidance on how to prepare for your interview. Make sure you take time to read the details so that you are prepared for the assessment and know what to expect.

We’re a customer-facing business so our appearance is important. We’d suggest that you wear something to reflect the business area you are interviewing for. We’ll give you some guidance on dress-code in your invitation to attend an assessment.

This is your opportunity to really sell yourself so think about why you’re the best candidate for the job, familiarise yourself with the role profile and the key skills we are looking for. Be prepared to talk through examples of situations that will best demonstrate those skills.

Remember that an interview is a two-way discussion! We’ll give you the opportunity to ask any questions that you have so think about what you’d like to know more about – it’s important to us that you know enough about both the role and us as an employer before making a decision about joining us.

Listen carefully to the questions being asked and try to keep your answers focused. Remember that it’s ok to ask your interviewer to repeat or reframe the questions – we’d rather you take the time to reflect and understand the question completely before answering.

Take a few moments to think about your answer before you start speaking

Relax and enjoy the assessment as much as you can, we know it can be a nerve wracking experience – we believe that you’re at your best when you allow yourself to be you!

At Matalan, we really care about what we do for our customers and our people. Our assessment process is designed to get the best out of you and give you the opportunity to demonstrate your passion and commitment to the role.
