About the Role

We're looking for a Talent Development Manager to lead the Talent Development agenda across Head Office, Retail and Logistics, continually growing and evolving our Matalan Education offer for all levels and offering a development experience which stands out from the competition and allows us to grow and retain the best talent.

Our Talent Development Manager will work collaboratively with the broader talent team, HR colleagues and Business Stakeholders, leading our TD advisors to provide learning that develops internal talent to better enable the delivery of the business strategy.

  • Lead the Talent Development agenda, shaping focus areas and priorities for the team which are aligned to the broader Talent and Business Strategies​
  • Consistently drive innovation and new thinking in relation to the Matalan Education offer, finding new ways to evolve and develop it to better business performance​
  • Ensure digital learning is a key staple of the offer, providing a platform for colleagues to self-serve and get the learning they need, when they need it​
  • Facilitate the delivery of great Management and Leadership development programmes for teams across the business as well as implementing fast track programmes to grow future talent across key volume roles​
  • Be the lead voice around Talent Development with all key stakeholders, building great relationships which offer both challenge and support ​
  • Work collaboratively across the broader Talent team and wider HR department to ensure a joined-up approach and end to end thinking across any initiative ​
  • Challenge back and influence effectively when things are requested that are not aligned to the Talent or HR strategy, maintaining the integrity of the Talent function​
  • Promote a continuous improvement culture across the talent team, driving a collaborative ways of working throughout the wider team, ensuring that we are as efficient and effective as possible, never duplicating workload or working towards different agendas​
  • Focus on the ongoing development of the Talent Development team, ensuring they become well rounded in terms of digital, project management, design, delivery and evaluation​
  • Find ways to broaden the impact the Talent Development team can have through tapping into external funding and building relationships with external providers​
  • Remain commercial at all times, ensuring interventions are strategic and focused on the things that will make the biggest business impact, challenging the team to do the same

About You

  • Great interpersonal skills, someone who can build and maintain relationships as well as challenge and influence stakeholders
  • Ability to nurture, support and coach talent development professionals as well as leaders across the business too 
  • Creating and running leadership and management development programmes as well as managing a digital platform and learning agenda would be preferred
  • Psychometric qualifications such as SDI or MBTI are preferred but not essential
