About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Buyer to join the team here at our Knowsley Head Office. As a Senior Buyer you will  develop and execute a new omni channel, Branded Fashion offer into the business, driving incremental top lines sales & profit.

Working in partnership with your Merchandiser to manage our Branded Supplier relationships, you will identify  future growth opportunities and oversee range & promotional plans to maximise company profit, working across all Fashion Buying & Design teams to ensure our Branded product offering is relevant, competitive and desirable to our Matalan Customer.

You will support the Director of buying to deliver company strategies and interface with key strategic partners to deliver this.

  • Establish & maintain good relationships with existing & potential new branded suppliers, attending and contributing to supplier meetings on building optimum ranges.
  • Act quickly to build upon customer feedback or data that demonstrates a gap in our Branded product offer, with the ability to work at pace to scope profitable, new partners.
  • Attend UK Trade shows and regular buying trips to suppliers.
  • Conduct competitor shopping trips and benchmarking, identifying issues and opportunities for your department including Pricing, Range Width, gaps or over ranging, equipment and POS.
  • Contribute in WISSI meetings showing an understanding of how intake and OTB affects WSSI figures for your range.
  • Have full accountability for sourcing and negotiating approved new Branded ranges in line with critical path requirements, preparing for and attending range selection and sign off meetings, contributing on market performance, price benchmarking and competitor ranges.
  • Demonstrate an extensive knowledge of the Matalan customer and the value market.
  • Develop excellent working relationships with all key stakeholders across Buying, Merchandising, Sourcing, Marketing and Ecommerce.
  • Lead a Buying team, developing, coaching & mentoring individuals and driving team performance.

About You

  • Exceptional customer and commercial awareness of the branded fashion retail market. 
  • Successfully held a Buyer or Senior Buyer role within a fast-paced Branded fashion retail environment
  • Proven omni-channel product development experience
  • Experience of direct sourcing within UK and overseas. Ability to influence and negotiate in the workplace.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to deliver business goals
  • Strong commercial acumen.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Have a desire to embrace and promote change and newness
  • Act as a brand ambassador internally and externally
  • Proven leaderships skill and ability to challenge upwards
