About the Role

We’re currently looking for a Communications Assistant to join our Retail Operations team here at Matalan Head Office on a Maternity cover basis. As a Communications Assistant you will support the business by delivering clear, concise and accurate communications to stores whilst liaising with Head Office departments and act as an exemplary ambassador for the Retail Operations department in supporting the wider business with their store communication needs.

  • Produce clear, concise, creative and appropriate communications to all areas of the business using relevant communication methods (i.e. intranet, video, email, conference call, reports)
  • Effectively communicate information and guidance to stores on a daily basis via the Intranet
  • Provide store teams with information packs, with detail relating to all in store activities, including mailer, sale, and seasonal campaigns.
  • Regular housekeeping of intranet system, liaising with relevant stakeholders to review / remove and update content
  • Produce key date timeline guidance for the business to ensure a balanced workload for stores is planned and executed
  • Drive the improvement of the user experience of the Intranet, making recommendations whilst liaising and working with the provider to achieve this at regular intervals on an ongoing basis.
  • Seek to drive improvements in store compliance with respect to the Intranet system
  • Work with other departments to ensure the delivery of accurate and concise promotional checklists to stores in a timely manner
  • Liaise with all head office functions as appropriate to ensure that all communications are correctly branded and formatted, and communicated within the agreed timescales using the correct tone of voice
  • Act as a point of contact for internal departments and stores regarding any intranet queries and communication requirements
  • Respond to all store charity and activity requests, compiling and communicating regular charity updates
  • Actively seek ways of reducing cost spend and mitigating any associated cost risk
  • Act as a link between head office and stores for ad hoc and day to day queries
  • Engage in cross functional working practices to support the needs of the business

  • Strong organisational and numerical skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Strong numeric skills
  • Ability to deliver today while innovating the future
  • Strong IT skills, in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint, adobe creative, video software
  • Ability to work across a number of reporting lines
  • Experience of delivering to tight deadlines
  • Proactive and capable of using own initiative
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility towards demanding and varied workload
