General Sales Assistants

Great. Because it doesn't get more fast-moving than Matalan. You'll be at the heart of the action, making sure we deliver an outstanding service each and every time. Expect loads of variety. Whether you're keeping our queues short or creating dazzling store displays, you'll play a vital role in delighting our customers. Greeting them with a smile, you'll help out everywhere from the tills and the shop floor to the changing areas and stock rooms.

You'll need bags of enthusiasm and a positive attitude to succeed in this role. You also need to be flexible about shifts and willing to roll your sleeves up to get things done. If you're ambitious and willing to learn, however, we'll ensure you receive all the training you need to progress. There's a strong culture of internal promotion within the company, and many of our General Sales Assistants move into management.

We also have opportunities at various stores for Shop Floor Assistants, Twilight Replenishers, Customer Service Assistants, Stockroom Assistants and Cash Administrators.

Our Positions

Twilight Replenisher (selected stores)

You'll unload deliveries and display our stock - making sure products are readily available and well presented at all times, as well as checking merchandise for quality and pricing. This team works in the early mornings and late evenings, so you need to be flexible about shift times.

You'll also have the physical strength needed to lift and move stock.

Customer Service

You'll do whatever it takes to keep reception running smoothly, from highlighting the benefits of membership for new customers, to dealing with complaints in an empathetic way. You'll need to be able to prioritise tasks and keep your composure even under pressure. Ideally you'll have experience in a similar environment.

Stockroom Assistant

Making sure the right stock is in the right place at the right time is no mean feat, especially at peak trading times. You'll help ensure a smooth flow of goods from delivery to shop floor, changing the stockroom layout to reflect seasonal changes in our business. With some warehousing or stock room experience, you'll bring strong organisational skills.

Cash Administrator (Part Time)

You'll provide support to the management team by making sure all our takings are double-checked, as well as banking monies to keep cash holdings in the store at a reasonable level. You'll also help with general store duties and audits when needed. You need to be available at weekends and have some cash reconciliation experience.
